The courthouse square
Downtown is built around the Lawrence County courthouse square. A bronze statue of David Crockett stands on the square next to a gazebo, with shops, offices, and restaurants on the blocks around it. The Lawrenceburg Commercial Historic District is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
David Crockett State Park
Crockett lived in Lawrence County after 1817 and ran a gristmill and a powder mill on Shoal Creek. The state park on the west side of town, off US 64, has a reconstructed water powered gristmill, Lake Lindsey for fishing and paddling, Crockett Falls, campgrounds along Shoal Creek, and about ten miles of trails.
Shoal Creek
Shoal Creek runs along the west side of town through the state park and on toward the Tennessee River in Alabama. It is the reason the early mills were here, and it is still where people go to paddle and fish.
Two highways, three job centers
US 43 and US 64 cross in Lawrenceburg. US 43 runs north to Columbia, roughly 30 miles, and south to Florence, Alabama, roughly 40 miles. Nashville is roughly 80 miles north by way of Columbia and I 65 or the Natchez Trace route. Drive times depend on where you start and where you park, so I always tell buyers to make the drive at rush hour before they write.

Named for a War of 1812 captain
Lawrence County is named for Captain James Lawrence, the naval officer remembered for the words "Don't give up the ship." The county was created in 1817, the same era Crockett arrived.
